The town of Guaymas has a shell shop run by Mary Ricaud on Calle 24 near the
harbor. I bought shells by mail from Mary in the 1960's and she is still
there. Catch 22 beach (the wide sandy beaches also around the road to La
Manga)outside San Carlos is nice, still largely undeveloped, and the local
population may have shells or crabs for sale. The area of San Carlos is an
American enclave where English is spoken/understood by many. There are many
excellent eating places in San Carlos-every place we went was good and not
expensive. There is a "fast food" style restaurant near the El Creston
Motel which had excellent hamburgers. There are some U.S. fastfood places in
Guaymas (Pizza Hut, McDonalds??, but why go to a foreign locale for those).
Downtown San Carlos is a bust for shells -either round granite boulders for
beach or tide pools which are also a bust. The bay is muddy but has shells
at low tide.
