Right you are Carol, Diesel fuel is the primary ingredient in WD-40 and this
does have acid of some sort. Acid and shells is a risky undertaking and best
tried on an old shell. problem with this is that the damage from the acid in
the WD-40 will not show for some time and a week, month or year from now
you'll find damage. WD-40 is an excellent product for breaking a rusted nut
loose or ridding that hinge of a squeak but as for shells let's just us it
to lubricate the drawer slides on the cabinet .
