That's because the book is incorrect in this instance. I have
discussed this with Lenny.

I have several specimens of the species. What appears to be punctae
(a character of Opalia) is in fact transparent spots in the shell
wall; against the otherwise opaque white shell, they look like
indentations. I looked hard at this when I received my specimens back
in about 1993 or so. If I'd known of the identification problem I'd
certainly have made sure you guys had the data before The Book text
was fixed.

This is the only ep species I know of which shows this character.
Actually, no... Epitonium ("Cycloscala") crenatum is translucent,
colorless, with small opaque white spots on the costal crenulations.
