Dear Cecil:

The muricid seems to be of genus Xanthochorus and considering the place where it was found it could be X. xanthostoma, there is a lot of varieties on forms and colours, and maybe the specific shell is juvenile considering the size and its elongated form.

The Fissurellas I think they all are F. maxima, maybe juvenile by the size. The difference with F. radiosa is mainly the size(radiosa max. 35-40 mm) and distribution; they never reach that latitude. F. radiosa also has a thin margin very different from the wide margin of F. maxima.
There is another fissurella species similar: f. stellata, but it has more sharp edges and is more dark and high.

I hope this helps,

Regards,

JF Araya.

I have put on my Web page images of a muricid(?) and 2 groups of
Fissurellas I collected in Chile. I would appreciate assistance in
identifying them. The URL is:

I am having a real problem with the smaller fissurellas, as their
patterns are so similar. Some of my smaller specimens also could be
juveniles of the larger species.
