More on Abbott's Golden Field Guide. I have purchased perhaps two dozen of
these over the years at used book stores for a couple bucks each. I keep a
copy of the first and the second editions myself, but the others I give to
young (and occasionally not so young) shell collectors. These are easy to
use references and hopefully can help a young shell collector get started,
instead of being over-whelmed with technical jargon. My latest copy was
sent to a young lady in Texas who wrote asking some questions about shells
she found. So if you occasionally prowl through used book stores (and who
doesn't?), look for these little treasures and maybe help a youngster answer
some questions about the fascinating molluscan world.

Tom E. in New Mexico where we have some 700 hot air balloons ready to launch
tomorrow at the annual Balloon Fiesta.
