Dear all,

I have searched the Conch-L archives and the web and
found many references to marine mollusk identification
books. However, I have some specific unanswered
questions that I hope I might get help with. I am
ready to order some books I have never seen, and I am
seeking advice to ensure I buy the best available
books of each type. I am looking for crisp color
photographs with range and habitat data. Pictures and
descriptions of the living animals would be ideal.

Conidae: I have the Compendium of Seashells and Manual
of the Living Conidae, Volume 1. I wish for volume 2
of "The Manual" to cover the rest of the world but I
have been told it may never materialize. Does anyone
know if this is true? Is there any single book that
comprehensively covers Conidae of the world or can
anyone recommend the best books for identification of
cone shells from Africa, the Atlantic and the
Caribbean?

I am considering purchase of "Conchs, Tibias and
Harps" by Gerry Walls. Any comments? I am also
considering A Conchological Iconography: The Family
Strombidae by Kreipl and Poppe. Is this the most
definitive work for identifying Strombus and Lambis or
is there something better?

What is the single best book for identifying Olividae?
How about Muricidae? And what about Mitridae? I found
a reference to a book "Mitridae Costellaridae" by
Alain Robin and Jean-Claude Martyn, but I can't find
anyplace on the web selling a copy.

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

John Flynn
