Dear listers,
When people ask me if I have a dog, I tell them, "No, but I have pet snails," as a kind of joke. Several months ago, I noticed that there were a couple of kinds of live snails that strayed into my carport occasionally. I decided to toss some into a jam jar with holes punched in the top and some dead leaves on the bottom. (These are Mesodon thyroidus and whatever 3-tooth species in prevalent around here).
Other than putting a little water and source of calcium, I've been a neglectful pet owner. The jar has sat on my kitchen window sill. The snails are mostly dormant but sometimes I see them out on the sides of the jar.
Today, I noticed tiny flecks on the side. Snail poop? No, there are several tiny snail children waiting for...gifts?
I'm sorry I seem to have missed the egg stage. Time for a larger container for the snail families.
Happy holidays!

I used to wake up at 4 A.M. and start sneezing, sometimes for five hours. I tried to find out what sort of allergy I had but finally came to the conclusion that it must be an allergy to consciousness.--James Thurber
