Hello All

I have just subscribed to the List. I live in England and am a fan of all
freshwater invertebrates, but particularly gastropods. I started out
working in the aquarium trade, and always found the inverts more
interesting than the fishes. Anything in a different phylum is like a
glimpse into an alien world.

One problem I have found is that there is often very little information on
some of the species we keep as pets, at least here in the UK. At the moment
I am trying to find out more about the true freshwater gastropod nerites
(Neritina turrita, Clithon brenspinas, Septaria porcellana), but there
seems to be very little published data available. I don't even know for
certain if these are the correct species names: it's simply the label given
by the supplier (some types come in without even an attempt at a taxonomic
classification). Does anyone have any basic information on these species?
For example, I suspect their young are planktonotrophic, but I can't even
establish this with any certainty. Any help appreciated.

Many thanks,

Anna Robinson
