> Pleioptygma Conrad, 1863 was know for over a century from extinct fossil

From the mid-1800's to the early 1970's, most of the Pliocene of
eastern North America was misidentified as upper Miocene. The error
persists in some publications. P. carolinensis (Conrad) is a Pliocene
species.

There are a few other genera in similar taxonomic quadries, such as
Lapparia (Paleogene, bounced between Mitridae and Volutidae).
