Recently several subscribers have asked about the lists posting rules. Many of the questions have
been about what is and what is considered a commercial advertisement and therefore should not
be posted to the list.

So what is a commercial advertisement? Its an add for a product by a person who wants you to
buy the product. Seems simple right?

Well here is where it gets more complicated. Because we want to encourage discussions and the
exchange of information the list does allow for certain very specific types of advertisements to be
posted to the list. We allow shell clubs and orginizations to post a limited number of
informational messages. We allow publishers or authors to announce a new book or web site. We
allow subscribers to ask for and recieve recommendations on where to shell, how to shell, what
they find useful when they shell. In addition, we allow commercial concerns to include a link to
their email or web address as part of their signature.

What we do not allow subscribers to post to this list includes: for sale lists, for hire adds, repeated
announcements about a web site where products are sold.

Why do you sometimes see a post that obviously breaks the rules? Because this is an un-
moderated list. Most of the subscribers can post directly to the list without anyone reviewing their
posts. So what happens when someone posts an add to the list? They are sent an email
explaining why they should not have posted what they posted. What happens if they continue to
post adds to the list? Their subscription is set to moderated and each post they make has to be
reviewed before it is sent to the list.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me directly
