another factor in marine situations - given that visual color is simply the
reflection of specific wave lengths of light, why do deep water molluscs,
which live in a virtual absence of light, bear colored markings?
Particularly, why do they have markings in the long-wave (warm color) range
(reds, oranges, yellows) when these wavelengths of light penetrate ocean water
only a few meters, and are therefore not available for reflection by the shell
pigment?
