Ross,
  I would love to hear how people got interested in malacology/conchology.
I wrote a short article several years ago for the New York Paleontological
Society on how I became affiliated with the Carnegie.  I used to live in
NY, am still a member of NYPS, and they played a role in the story.  I'm
sure that some of the folks who remembered me enjoyed the article.
 
  So why don't you start and let us hear about you, Schooner Shells,
etc....
