Subject: [CONCH-L] Peppery limpets

I learned of the black pepper technique as a wee lad, back when Caxton was
still printing books. I can’t remember which book recommended it, but it is
apparently an ancient trick for harvesting limpets, which were once a major
food source in northern Europe and have recently been “rediscovered” by
epicures in search of something “new” for the TV kitchen. We ate them raw as
trainee survival instructors in Ireland many moons ago, using a K-Bar knife
to get them off as we weren’t keeping the shells…

I’d be interested to hear if other pepper-like substances – Sriracha,
Tabasco, Dave’s Insanity Sauce – work too. Conchlers: to the field!

EXTERNAL.
Go to a craft store and get a palette knife.  It easy to slip under them and
pop them off the substrate.
