This area is in Manatee County where you can only collect 2 live specimens of any species per day. But, for some reason, somebody decided this area "needed" to be closed to everyone. The north Skyway rest area has no restrictions at this time.

That's near Joe Island, isn't it. There was an occupied house there last time I went with Phil Poland. Maybe people were invading their privacy. We kept a respectful distance from the island and had no trouble, but that was a long time ago. It probably didn't have anything to do with shellers in particular. There are so many rude people everywhere these days, they were probably trying to camp out there and raise Hell all night.

I'm very familiar with this area which used to be a favorite of mine until someone thought this was a good idea to prevent anyone from going out on the flats on the bay side. The gulf side is still available but different.

Subject: [CONCH-L] Sunshine Skyway South Rest Area Flats
Does anyone have more information about this issue. To wit:
VERY early this morning I drove to the Sunshine Skyway South/Manatee County Rest Area on I-275 in Terra Ceia, FL. When I arrived, the one remaining access point to the flats was blocked off, and accompanied by a prominent sign that read
NO hunting/fishing/trespassing
Is this a temporary or permanent condition?
Thanks for any info.
