Dear List
I agree that these are Theba pisana. A widespread and common Mediterranean
species. This species aestivates on vegetationn and other structures during
the hot months. My work in southern Iberia has shown that, contrary to
common belief, individuals may remain active during the hot period, moving
during the cool nocturnal periods and returning to the 'herd' to spend the
hot day. I have, however, seen this unusual behaviour in only a number of
places.
