Hi Martha,
I don't know about Charleston as a shelling spot. I was on Hilton Head island on New Year's Day a couple of years ago in exceptional mild weather. The beach there was devoid of shells. But being a micro head, I had my magnifying loop on at the little pools with tiny bits of debris. I managed to pick up Teinostoma obtectum and Solariorbis infracarinatus, both of which you can see at http://jaxshells.org/atlantic.htm
Good luck,
