Dear Tom,
actually, Récluz did not just present a clue where he derived this name
from, but he explicitly stated in the description of his Natica moquiniana
in 1853 (J. Conchyliol. 4, 154-156):
"Nous dedions cette rare et interessante espece a notre ami le professeur
Moquin-Tandon, qui a enrichi la Zoologie malacologique d'un grand nombre
d'anatomies interessantes, rectifie beaucoup d'opinions fausses, et
decouvert des organes tout-a-fait inconnus avant lui. C.R."
