Hi you all,

Recently the editorial board of Vita Marina received a manuscript in which
it is stated that there was a 1970 printing of
Habe, T. & S. Kosuge, 1966. - Shells of the World in Colour. Vol. II The
tropical Pacific. Ed. 1, 1-193, col.pls. 1-68, b/w pls. 1-2. Tokyo.
before there was a 1972 printing, as was demonstrated in
Petit, R.E. & R. Bieler, 1996. – On the new names introduced in the various
printings of "Shells of the World in colour" [Vol. I by Tadashige Habe and
Kiyoshi Ito; Vol. II by Tadashige Habe and Sadao Kosuge]. – Malacologia
38(1-2): 35-46.
The evidence for this 1970 printing is at best "circumstantial".
The evidence is a reference to Walls's "Conchs, Tibia's and Harps" where in
the synonymy the taxa Harpa kajiyamai and H. kawamurai are attributed to
Habe & Kosuge, 1970 (Walls, page 191); and a photocopy of a page (possibly)
from the 1972 edition of the book by Habe & Kosuge, which states "Copyright
1965; First edition 1965 [should be 1966 to my knowledge]; reprinted in
1970.

I have already asked Paul Callomon and Richard E. Petit, but despite their
efforts, we [i.e. the editorial board] haven't found any solid proof for
the existence of this 1970 edition.

I hope that someone on the list can provide an answer. You can contact me
through the list or privately: [log in to unmask]

Thanks

Gijs
