Dear David,

While Art's explanation is more compelling, I have just read Charlie Adams'
description, and he seems to have had a notion similar to Paul's. C. B.
Adams credited his friend, A. A. Gould with the name "seminuda." The
reference appears to be the contrast of the subperipheral simple spiral
sculpture to the reticulate sculpture on the posterior "half" of the each
whorl.
