Some shell dealerships have been run by couples.
One couple who comes to mind were the Melvins. I believe they were from
Massachusetts. I believe their names were A. Gordon Melvin and Lorna
Melvin. They ran a specimen shell business for many years, and he published
a sort of combination pictorial guide book and price list. She ran the
business for some years after he passed away. I got my first pair of
Cypraea teulerei from them, around 1965 - at $75.00 apiece! Of course at
the time, that was a very good price for such a rare shell! How things
change!
