Another note:

In McLaren's "The Book of Crests"  (Scottish American clans) the one and
only included in the illustrations is of the "Pringle of Torsonce" ancient
crest which features "an escallop Or" (gold scallop) and a motto of
"Amicitia reddit honours" (Friendship gives honours).   McLaren says that
the escallop is the symbol of a traveller to far places and also the symbol
of a victorious naval commander.
