Dear Emmanuel (and others),

Hemitoma subemarginata (Blainville, 1819) is a drab-coloured Fissurellid
with reticulate scultpure and eight stronger radiating ribs, the posterior
three of which form a group above which the shell is slightly pinched. The
apex is slightly off-centre. It has only a very short slit (no hole in the
apex). It occurs along part of the southern Australian coast. It is
pictured in Vol. 1 of Australian Marine Shells (Wilson), and also in my
book 'Seashells of South-East Australia'. You can see a few pictures of
this shell on the web on the Australian Shells homepage at
http://www.capricornica.com/Aust_shells/index.htm (follow links under
'identification of Australian shells). At the moment there are only line
drawings of this shell on this page. I just tried to upload some other
material, but I can't, so I will have to wait until tonight to try again.
I'll let you know when these other pictures are up, because there is a lot
of new information to go on.

E-mail me privately if you want any more info

Patty
