Dear James,

A lot is written about Columbellids, mainly in small articles, and listing
them all would be an enormous task.

One of the best I know of:

Jung, P., 1989 - Revision of the Strombina-Group (Gastropoda:
Columbellidae), Fossil and Living. - Schweizerische Paläontologische
Abhandlungen 111: 1-298.

It covers all Recent species of what was previously called Strombina, but
there are several genera covered in this book. Since the publication of
this book, only two species belonging in this group have been described:
Cotonopsis monfilsi Emerson, 1993 [A new species of columbellid gastropod
from the old world tropics. - The Nautilus 106(4): 147 - 151]
Cotonopsis phuketensis (Kosuge, Roussy & Muangman, 1998) [Report on the
fauna of Thailand (1) with the description of a new species (Columbellidae
and Buccinidae). - Bulletin of the Institute of Malacology, Tokyo 3(5):
75-76, pl. 24] (published 30 October 1998 within the genus Strombina).
This latter species has a synonym:
Cotonopsis vanwalleghemi Kronenberg & Dekker, 1998 [A new species of
Cotonopsis Olsson, 1942 from an unexpected locality (Gastropoda
Prosobranchia: Columbellidae). - Vita Marina 45(3-4): 11-16] (published 29
December 1998)
Kronenberg & Dekker only then became aware of the paper by Kosuge et al.
and subsequently synonymised their taxon with Strombina phuketenis in 1999:
[Cotonopsis vanwalleghemi Kronenberg & Dekker, 1998, a junior synonym of
Strombina phuketensis Kosuge, Roussy & Muangman, 1998, with some notes in
the generic position and colour pattern (Gastropoda Prosobranchia:
Columbellidae) - Vita Marina 46(1-2): 69-72.]

Kind regards,

Gijs

Dear all,
Just asking, but does anyone know of some really good
references to Columbellidae? I'm talking about books,
small publications, ect. I am trying to find out about what dove
literature is out there, as I am going to load up on some of it
as soon as I get a bit of legal tender.

Thanks,
James
