Dear Aurel,
Welcome to CONCH-L. I hope you enjoy our company. Since you collect mostly
Mediteranean shells, I wonder if you can provide any information about the
naming of Mediteranean Conus. Appreciate your thoughts.
Sincerely
Bruce Livett

The European Register of Marine Species, Genus Conus
http://erms.biol.soton.ac.uk/lists/full/Mollusca.shtml#genus-Conus
lists only two (2) species:

Conus mediteranneus
http://www.mnhn.fr/cgi-bin/mamlist?R17091
and

Conus vayssierei
http://www.mnhn.fr/cgi-bin/mamlist?R17089

whereas the

Unitas Malacologica CLEMAM
Checklist of European Marine Mollusca
http://www.mnhn.fr/cgi-bin/mamlist?*Conus
lists four (4) species.

Conus fumigatus Hwass in Bruguière, 1792 (R28033)
http://www.mnhn.fr/cgi-bin/mamlist?R28033

Conus mediterraneus Hwass in Bruguière, 1792 (R17091)
http://www.mnhn.fr/cgi-bin/mamlist?R17091

Conus papilionaceus Hwass in Bruguière, 1792 (R27983)
http://www.mnhn.fr/cgi-bin/mamlist?R27983
and
Conus vayssierei Pallary, 1906 (R17089)
http://www.mnhn.fr/cgi-bin/mamlist?R17089

Why the difference ? Anyone know ?
