Professor Tadashige Habe died of natural causes in Tokyo on December 29th, aged 85. One of the great men of Japanese malacology, he was responsible not only for a vast body of literature but for teaching an entire generation of researchers. He is best known abroad for his illustrated books on Japanese shells, both his own work and those co-authored with Sadao Kosuge and Takashi Okutani.
