I've been "NOMAIL" for about a week or so. Has a night been decided for
the Conch-Lers to get together at COA? We (husband Bob and I) have
decided to attend COA, arriving Sunday, leaving Thursday morning.

I was very disappointed to find out that "Compendium" is merely a
reprint, with the same errata, no new names, etc. Who holds the
copyright on this book? So many scientific names have been changed and
so many new shells found in the interim between the first edition and
now, isn't there someone who could update the book?

Personally, since I already have the first edition, I cannot see any
advantages to buying this new edition. Am I wrong - are there to be
changes?

An observation: I was once very active in garden club work and learned
flowers and plants by their botanical names only, not even knowing the
common names. Why was that so easy, and why do I find it so hard to
learn the scientific names for shells? Could it be because there isn't
as direct a connection between the scientific name of shells and the
shell itself? (or maybe it's only because it is now 40 years later).
