My personal preference is always something with visual aids (slides,
enlarged photos, VCR tape) as opposed to lectures.  Or a "show and tell."  A
demonstration with member participation of cleaning shells.

Nothing more boring to me than to have to sit still and listen to a lecture
by someone who knows his material, but is not a good public speaker - and
there are very few good public speakers.  They would better off to
illustrate instead of lecture.
