We tend to think of ourselves as one big, happy (well, mostly!)
600+-member family here on Conch-L. Just talking among ourselves, you
know. But we really aren't exactly behind closed doors. One issue that
hasn't been mentioned in all of this controversy is the fact that
Conch-L's messages are archived, and there in cyberspace for all the
world to see. If anyone, list members or anyone else, searches on a
particular topic -- or name, whatever concerns that topic -- or name--
will come up on the search engine, including archived Conch-L messages!
These archives are invaluable in making the wealth of information from
years of Conch-L posts readily available to us all. But we might, on
reflecting about this, want to be more careful what we say about others
on Conch-L, or ANY list. Those archives are two-edged, so to speak.
