Hi

I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me with a snail name. Two
of the early names applied to the snails I studied for my PhD in Sydney,
Australia were introduced by Crosse in 1864, Helix mabillei and Helix
mabillei minor. Now it turns out that the two names represent two different
species. Helix mabillei is a synonym of Meridolum corneovirens while the
other is a potential earlier name for Meridolum duralensis. Therefore Helix
mabillei minor will now become Helix minor and potentially then Meridolum
minor. So my question then is, is there a Helix minor that predates 1864?
The short searches I have tried to date don't seem to have common up with
anything, certainly there are a number of xus yus var minor's but have any
of them been used in the form Helix minor?

Hopefully the list can help with this little problem.

Stephanie
