Hello from snowy St. Louis!

Most of these cowries are NOT carved.  Instead, the design
is painted on the surface with an acid resisting solution.
Then the top of the cowry is dipped in acid, to reveal the
purple layer underneath.  One could seeming carve a Cyprae
tigris to get this effect, but 99% of them are acid
produced.
