I remember my Bahamian dive instructor being flabbergasted that I might
give credence to evolution. And I couldn't understand how he had
trouble reconciling a belief in a deity with such an intricate and
interesting thing.

Fundamentalism has very troubling implications for human relations.
What is so difficult to grasp about the idea of metaphor?
