Dear Henk,
Thank you for your information regarding my
questions on Gomphina. It has been quite
helpful.
All the best from Korea,
Ron

Dear Ron and other Conch-Lers,
Here are only some remarks concerning the
question you have posted on the list.
Gomphina
semicancellata:
The correct author is Koch in Philippi,
1843. The three volumes of the work by
Philippi ("Abbildungen und
Beschreibungen....") contains a large number
of descriptions of new species by
other authors. Koch is one of them, he
supplied the original description of
semicancellata.
Fischer-Piette & Metivier,
1971
According to Fischer & Metivier, 1971:
70. [Revision des Tapetinae (Mollusques
Bivalves). Memoires du Museum
National d'Histoire Naturelle, NS (Serie A,
Zool.): 1-106, plts.
1-16.]
Gomphina semicancellata is a junior
synonym of Gomphina aequilatera (Sowerby,
1825) (originally described as a
Donax).
Although Gomphina neastartoides (Yokoyama,
1922) is listed is an independant species,
they leave it to Japanese
malacologists to decide whether it is really
a good species, because they could
not study enough material of the latter
species.
Best regards,
Henk K. Mienis
