Hi,

Sometimes email that is sent to the list is bounced back to the sender (or on to me) because of a
technical problem in the content.

Often the bounced email has the following message from the listserv software:

"The enclosed message, found in the CONCH-L mailbox and shown under the spool ID
723762 in the system log, has been identified as a possible delivery error
notice for the following reason: "Sender:", "From:" or "Reply-To:" field
pointing to the list has been found in mail body."

What does this mean you ask?

I is actually quite simple - the body of the email message included at least one line that started
with one of the SPECIAL listserv words: "Sender:", "From:" or "Reply-To:"

Listserv looks for these words to help it manage the email it receives. If it finds more then one
"From:" it doesn't know who the email is from and so can't process that message. Instead it sends
it back to the sender (if it can) and on to the list owner to deal with.

This usually happens when someone replies to or forwards an email and the program they are
using doesn't "comment out" the special words. The way to comment out a special word is to put
a ">" infront of the word. Usually the program will put a ">" infront of each and every line of text.
Sometimes a different character is used, but it has the same effect... The listserv program no
longer notices the word as a special word and it properly processes the email.

If you have this problem, check your email programs preferences, options or settings to see if you
can get it to add a character in front of your reply to and forwarded emails. If you can not get it to
do this you will need to manually remove (or comment out) any of the special words.

Amy
