Dear Listeristis

The Philadelphia Shell Show will take place on Saturday and Sunday October 8th and 9th at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia. To mark the club's 50th anniversary, the show will be held in a dedicated hall and will feature the best display yet of competitive exhibits. Other planned highlights include an enhanced art section, with shell-themed sculpture and graphic arts. The bourse will be as lively and international as ever! Regular favorites such as talks on conchological themes, tours of the Academy's unsurpassed collections and free shells for kids will all be there too.
From mid-September until the end of the year, the Academy's Ewell Sale Stewart library is mounting an exhibit of antique sailors' valentines. This period encompasses the show, and we are hoping to have the biggest and best display of contemporary valentines yet to complement the antique ones.
The banquet will be held on Saturday evening in the Academy's exhibit halls once more, with an enhanced and improved menu and a dessert contest for the culinarily-inclined. Shell-themed desserts will obviously be at an advantage; disputed judgements will be no problem as the evidence will have been eaten.
With a dedicated space at our disposal, we invite everyone to 'bring it on' - big exhibits, big shells, big art! Entrance rules for the show are available on our website at

On behalf of the club, I look forward to welcoming you all to Philly in the fall.

Paul Callomon
