The August, 1998 issue of Internet Hawaiian Shell News (IHSN) is now on
line, including a new auction.

This issue includes articles available in both HTML and Acrobat format.
The Acrobat format has a number of advantages, mainly in viewing
graphics due to the poor compression scheme for graphics that is not
optional in MS Publisher, which I use to produce IHSN. In Acrobat,
graphics can be viewed with magnification. 150 to 200% is best for
graphics, 100% for text in one column, 200% for text in two columns.

It takes 4 minutes to download the typical IHSN Acrobat section when the
Acrobat link is clicked. It can then be printed in one print command,
rather than one page at a time as in the HTML version.

The discrete pages of sections is maintained to allow accurate
references to articles in the future. All sections are treated as a
printed document: No text or graphics changes after going on line.
This allows production of a magazine at low cost to the producer and
essentially no cost to the reader. The number and size of photos in a
printed magazine are severely limited by economics. This is not the
case on the internet (Except for overall memory used by the magazine on
line). All issues are maintained on several hard disks, and are
available in limited quantities annually on CDs which will be in the
Acrobat version.

Your comments are requested, for the guidance of myself and other
editors.

Aloha,

Wes
