Funding Field Trips" is a BIG thing that doesn't happen in schools = these
days.

The first 15 years we did our Shell Festival..we opened the Festival on
Friday just to school children. We sent invitations to all the schools =
and we had thousands of children come in school buses hourly. Dr. Abbott =
would give the glass an "introduction to shells" and then the children could
= see
the exhibits and buy inexpensive shells from the dealers. We had to have
lots of club members on the floor to supervise and answer questions..but =
it was a great experience.

AND the children would often make their parents come back to the = Festival
the next day because of what they had seen.

We stopped opening the show on Fridays because the children cannot come =
any
more..They can't afford to move those buses. What a shame! But we still
send information to EVERY school in Brevard County about the Festival.
