Several states have protected species lists, often easier to update
than the Federal listing. However, these lists may include species
that are common elsewhere and merely on the fringe of the range in the
state as well as truly imperiled species.

NatureServe tries to list a status for all species; this has no legal
status but is one of the best available assessments of the status of
various taxa.

I haven't checked to see if CITES promptly updates when species are
added to the Federal protected list.
