Dear Mr Hoefkens,

Take the train from Kyoto Station to Maizuru (get an express and it'll
take about 40 minutes I guess). You can then get any of the branch lines
from there along the coast of Wakasa Bay (Sea of Japan). There's one
from Maizuru eastwards to Obama that will cross a peninsula at first but
will then take you along the coast through Takahama, Kato, Seihama and
other spots. Get off at any of these and it'll be a short walk to the
beach. Westwards, a line runs to Miyazu, which has some nice collecting
spots too. One station beyond Miyazu is the legendary Amanohashidate
beach, a major tourist spot (Amanohashidate station).
Don't bother heading for Osaka, as the coast is solid concrete for 50
miles or more, almost to Wakayama in one direction and Himeji in the
other.

Regards,

PC.

Dear Conch-L community,

In about three weeks time I will be visiting Kyoto for about 11 days.
Does anyone know any collecting opertunities in the vicinity of Kyoto,
which could be reached by means of public transportation? (For instance
any
beaches near Osaka or so?)
I do not mind spending a few hours traveling by train.
I am not looking for really good collecting spots,a beach with some
washed
up shells will be fine. Just an excuse to see the sea.
(However, of course I do not object visiting good shelling spots ;-)
)

Kind regards,

Peter Hoefkens
