Being an old-timer myself, I have enjoyed reminiscing with fellow veterans
who also remember some of the long-gone establishments where we all made
discoveries and had a lot of fun. Among my favorites; Pancho's in Dania,
FL, approximately where the Hollywood-Ft. Lauderdale airport is now
("typhoon mix"....bags of mixed species from exotic locales, impossibly
enormous Tridacnas) and Boardwalk Rock and Shell in Atlantic City, NJ,
(growth series of all species of South African limpets, fabulous northern
Pacific Buccinids) which was supplanted by the first NJ casino. I will
never forget the first time George Gundaker, who worked for the owner,
Marvin Hume, felt I finally warranted using the keys to all the cases and
having free rein was like being a kid in a candy shop. George is still
going strong and will be at COA again this summer.
See you all there!
