The first Shell Shop we ever went into in Santa Barbara was the Phillips'
shop.

We had just begun to collect some shells on the Santa Barbara coast. We had
been reading lots of shell books and then discovered a shell shop.

They really encouraged us. They invited us to come to the Shell Club
meeting at the Santa Barbara Museum.

Our daughter at the time was three years old and she walked into the shop
pointed to a shell in the case and said "Cypraea spadicea". As the owner's
mouth dropped open!

That was over 40 years ago! Aaack!
