Hello David, I am going to be there in May and have the same general
observation. Actually one interesting spot nearby (you have to pay to
go by water taxi, sound familiar?) is a place called Morris Island.
That may be better just in terms of less foot traffic on the island
(only accessible by boat).... I may have some other notes at home but
I think I was able to find some mention of both the north end and
south end, eg anywhere there is a jetty has the potential to
trap/accumulate material.
