Reffering to the DNA aspect of of describing a species mentioned by Wes.

Most people might ask, "How do you propose the DNA to be studied?" Well a
simple and easy way of characterizing some genetic information is a to develop
a karotype. A karotpye is just the description of the chromosomes of the
animal. It is very simple to do in most mollusks since the chromosomes tend to
be large. All one needs is a microscope, if possible with a camera attachment,
tissue collected from the fresh animal and fixed in alcohol:acetic acid (3:1)
and some sort of stain, lacto aceto orcein. The methods are very simple (High
School Level).

Are there any other good characterizations of DNA for species description?

Emilio
