You know what? I always thought that evolutionary fittness meant most
able to cope with ones environment. Elephants were able to cope with the
ice ages only if they were hairy enough. At that point, they were fitter
than hairless elephants. Gnus are fit only if they can percieve and
outrun lions.
        Using the other deffinition, J.S. Bach with 21 children is probably the
fittest of composers of all time----unless Beethovan messed around a
lot.
