Dear Harry and Tom,

Bathynerita naticoide is a deep water Neritidae found in the Louisianna
slope, a bathyal species endemic to oil and gas seeps in the Gulf of Mexico.
As I wrote in my previous message it looks much more a Natica. Maybe it is
the reason to be called B. naticoides.

I have (at home) the article that described the specimen but it can also be
seen in a National Geographic Magazine article about life at bathyal oil and
gas seeps offshore Lousianna about two years ago. They are the tons of tiny
white animals that can be seen in some pictures. They are animals that live
under very severe environmental conditions.

Tom I'll see if I can scan them. Please, this is not a promise.

All the best,

Eduardo
Brasilia, Brazil

Eduardo,

Good to hear from you. I think your shells must be the answer to the deep
water issue. The ones I have look like N. dubia and I am sure were found in
shallow, brackish water like normal. I wish you had a scanner as I would
like an image of your shells. Do you know of other Bathynerita? I guess
I'll have to keep an eye out.

Tom
