Hi again,

Andy, don't forget that to have a dentist as a wife is like walk on a knife
blade. If you do something she does not like she can always take out one of
your molars while you are sleeping ... without anaesthesia. ;-)))

Returning to our magazine indexes subject, and borrowing Sue Garrison's
idea, magazines editors could include quite easily a page with all articles
issued with some keywords and all shells IDs listed in each article. This
page could be easily copied by the readers and kept in Sue's method. It
could also be scanned and included by the reader in a kind of data base.
Much much better than typing everything again, including tons of errors and
lefting something behind.

Lynn, please think about it in our next American Conchologist issue. Maria
the same idea could be used by La Conchiglia.

Eduardo

Assunto: Re: [CONCH-L] Magazine Indexes

Eduardo is right; electronic indices are more effective than paper ones.
They can also be generated semiautomatically from electronic documents,
although I am told that they do require a substantial amount of human
intervention to yield a good result. (Does anyone have advice on which
software to use?) The editors of any recent journal certainly have all of
the articles in electronic form, so a volunteer could arrange with them to
index a few years' worth of magazine. The index would be publishable in
either paper or electronic form. Want to see your name in print?

...

I envy Eduardo, who can have dental attention without waiting for weeks
first!
