This is a well known incident. But don't forget that sharks are the garbage
cleaners of the oceans. They kill old, ill, wounded animals, that usually is
close the surface. They also eat sea lions and turtles. That's the main
reason that you can dive close to a surfer and the shark will attack the
surfer not you.

Every wild animal is wild and unpredictable. So, a little bit of caution is
good for everybody while dealing with them. This doesn't mean that they are
"bad".

I already had at least five dives where I saw sharks and other five where my
buddies saw them. No problem and unless I face a great white or something
similar the chances are VERY low. On the other hand, "No problem up to now"
was the same sentence the suicide said to himself when he reached the fifth
floor. :-)))

There is that small incident in 1945 when the USS Indianapolus (Yes the same
ship that delivered the A-Bombs ) went down in the Coral Sea . The
survivors went over the side when the ship was sinking , they formed up
rings and there floated , the sharks picking them off one by one all
through the night until they were rescued the next morning. Most of the
ships compliment survived the torpedoing by the Japanese sub only to be
consumed by sharks . ferreter
