Dear Wolfgang and a few possible hangers-on to this thread,

F. (S.) gallagheri Smythe and Chatfield, 1981 was described in Smythe, K.
S. and J. E. Chatfield, 1981. New species of Fusinus (Sinistralia) and
Bullia from Masirah, Oman (Prosobranchia:Buccinacea). Journ. Conch. 30(6):
374-377 + 1 pl. (17) + 1 fig.

F. (S.) somaliensis Smythe and Chatfield, 1984 was described in Smythe, K.
S. and J. E. Chatfield, 1984. Fusinus (Sinistralia) somaliensis: a new
species of whelk from Mogadiscio, Somalia. Journ. Conch. 31: 307-310.

Yes, there is a mini-literature on Sinistralia. Here are a few citations,
the earliest and most passionate of which are by Germans and deal with
Fusinus (Sinistralia) maroccensis (Gmelin, 1791) in a variety of
non-binominal iterations:

1. Chemnitz, J. H., 1774. Der Naturforscher 8: 171-175, tab IV, fig. 6.
2. Chemnitz, J. H., 1778. Der Naturforscher 12: 76-84 tab III, f. 2a, 2b.
3. Chemnitz, J. H., 1786. Neues systematisches Conchylien-Cabinet 9: p.
62; tab. 105, fig. 896.
4. Favanne, J. de and J. G de Favanne, 1780. La conchyliologie, histoire
naturelle des coquillages, etc. 3 vols., Paris. (planche XXXIII, f. A6).
5. Martini, F. H. W., 1776. Neue Mannigfaltig feiten 4(3): 417-426, tab.
II, f. 17-19.
6. Meuschen, F. C., 1787. Museum Geversianum, sive index rerum naturalium
...comparatvit A. Gevers publice distrahendam. Rotterdam. (p. 304,
species 575).
7. Schröter, J. S., 1777. Inn. Bau der Conchylien p. 47, tf. 4, f. 6.
8. Schröter, J. S., 1783-1787 Einleitung in die Conchylien-Kintness nach
Linné. Vol 1, p. 644, Mx # 287.

There then followed the "usual suspects" not limited to Gmelin (1791; 13th
edition of the Systema Naturae), who first validated Chemnitz's
non-binominal Murex maroccensis (sp. 132, p. 3358; citing figures of works
3., 5., and 7. above); Lamarck (1816), who un-necessarily renamed Gmelin's
taxon "Fusus sinistralis" based on the same Chemnitz (1786) figure; Reeve
(1848), who named Fusus elegans in Conchologia Iconica (pl. XIX), February;
and G. B. Sowerby III (1895), who coined Fusus barclayi in "Descriptions of
twelve new species, chiefly from Mauritius" Proc. Mal. Soc. (London) 1: 41-51.

The Canary Is. taxon was discussed in Saunders, G. D., 1978. Sinistral
Fusinus from Lanzarote (Canary Islands). La Conchiglia 110-111: 18-19.

Fascination with the group seems to have been rekindled since the days of
Chemnitz, Schröter and their kamrades.
