Be careful, however, when manipulating tiny shells with a needle or a
whisker, because one fling from a needle could send your shell flying
across the room.

One method to prevent this is to place the shells on a special "stage".
This can be made out from a shallow plastic petri dish, about 5cm
diameter with a 1cm height wall.If a round disc is cut off from a piece
of thin (5mm) neoprene or old dive suit (black preferred)and fitted
tightly inside the dish this would make the small shells stand out
better (a piece of black cardboard would probably also do). This small
gadget has saved me hours trying to find shells catapulted by the "hair
brush".
