Specialists do share their knowledge, in the form of papers and books. What
they are often loth to do is to disclose any details of their current
projects. With their institutions demanding regular publication and other
signs of value for money, many are concerned (quite rightly, too) primarily
with completing and publishing their original work. Everyone else can then
read it, is the idea.
