It must be a good-sized snail if it was intended for use as human food.  I
suspect it may be the same species of Pomacea (or Ampullaria - I'm not sure
which is correct) that is sold in aquarium stores under that same name -
golden snail.  I can't recall the species name, but it was discussed on
Conch-L a few months back.  I'm sure someone can supply the name.
